Dementia Forum - Tamworth 4 September 2019

Dementia Forum 2019

It’s time again for the New England Dementia Forum!

The forum provides the opportunity for New England clinicians and care workers to network and hear the latest information to help services better support people living with dementia, their carers & families.

Staff from Hospitals, Community Health, Multi-Purpose Services, Residential Aged Care Facilities, Community Aged Care Package providers, Commonwealth Home Support Program providers, General Practitioners and their practice staff are all encouraged to attend.

The theme for this year’s forum is “Practically Dementia – practical ideas for supporting people living dementia”, and we have an exciting line up of experts speaking at this year’s forum.

Speakers include Dementia Advocate and person with a lived experience of Dementia – Bobbie Redman, Psychogeriatrician – Dr Millie Ho, Dementia Counsellor and Advisor – Helen Stanley, Community Aged Care Oral Health Co-ordinator Karen Sleishman and Montessori approach – Jade Sinclair.

We look forward to seeing you on 4th September, 2019 at the 2019 New England Dementia Forum.

Creating WISER Service Providers
This session provides staff members with information and practical examples of The WISER Approach – using the principles of Montessori for dementia.
Individuals will develop knowledge and skills in:
•• Applying the Principles of Montessori into their service
•• Developing knowledge and understanding of how the brain and memory work
•• Creating supportive and prepared environments
•• Activities and roles the Montessori way
•• Problem solving and understanding ‘why is this happening’
This approach encourages staff members to empower people living with dementia to be as independent as possible, for as long as possible.

AgQuip field days is staged over three days – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, August 20, 21 and 22 2019. The event opens from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and 9am to 4pm on Thursday, with the car-parking gates open from 7.30am daily.
